I have been looking for Townhomes in Aldie(zip:20105) and Ashburn(Zip : 20147-48) areas. I work in Chantilly.

Similar homes in Ashburn is about 40k more than Aldie. Is it worth buying in Ashburn?

As per the information provided in your other thread, Ashburn currently has a lot more amenities and commercial. Aldie is just now growing. Only you can decide if it is worth the extra cost.

Why didn't you just add this question onto the end of your other thread?

It's a very vague question. I guess it depends how badly you want to live in Ashburn. If you like both areas equally buy the house that's 40k cheaper. I would make sure you don't over extend yourself, especially right now with the market possibly at a peak. If there is a pullback it's the exurb areas like Aldie & Ashburn that will feel it worse than the inner suburbs. If you're planning on being there a long time it probably won't be a big deal, you can weather whatever happens.

I know its coming! I'm narrowing down my options so thought it would be good to have separate post.

dmv101010 : Leesburg will be far if you have commute to DC. (Just in case if we have work in that area)

Aldie has route 50... Which is infamous for its horrible traffic. Done get me wrong, all of Ashburn feeds onto one totally overcrowded road.

If you live in Chantilly, I think Aldie would be a great choice. Right now it is kind of tough to make it from Ashburn to the Rt. 50 area with all the construction going on around Evergreen Mill/Gum Springs that could hold you up. Eventually better roads will be bit and I'm sure it will be much easier. But Aldie is in a growth mode and still holds a great value. A hospital is being built over the next few years, as is Dulles Landing shopping center. It has a nice community feel. Good luck!

Moved from Ashburn to Aldie and I am for the most part happy. Traffic congestion is about on par... (Used to live in Ashburn Village). However, one thing that is nice is that I don't have to pay toll anymore when commuting to work. Not that this is factor in if you work at chantilly.

Aside from traffic, I actually prefer Aldie because it is a bit quieter (although the day will come soon when it will be as crowded as Ashburn)
