Today was trash pickup day - I usually only put the trash and/or recycle can(s) out every 2-3 weeks. Had a rough night sleeping-wise (kept hearing noises) - just before 5 a.m. I KNEW I heard a noise outside, look out the window and see a woman going through my recycle can (which is on the street) and taking out the cans (she had 2 grocery type paper bags w/her) - not sure if she'd gone to other houses or not - I watch her for probably 10 mins. or so - she then picks up her bag and walks up the street. Creepy.

We have an older retired guy in my area that does that...goes through the recycle bins and pulls out the aluminum cans. I've actually taken to keeping them in a separate box for him so he doesn't need to dig through the big bin.

Have spoken to him several times, nice old guy. Says he does it to get some extra exercise(says on trash day he will walk and additional 5-6 miles), and the can's give him a few bucks when he turns them in every couple months.

Why is that creepy? She's obviously gathering cans to recycle to get some money.

As long as she doesn't leave a mess, I wouldn't worry about it at all.

I guess it's creepy to me since I'm recently widowed - I would gladly keep the cans out for the person if that was possible (I don't have any contact though) - someone used be on Freecycle that I donated to. I considered speaking to the person doing that - maybe I should have gone out and spoken to her. (to be honest, I could use the money from recycle cans but didn't think anything around offered). Guess I was just talking (and operating on 2 hrs. or so of fractured sleep)

Imagine that. How much Flamingo13 would have made had he/she raid her/his own recycle bin.

Um, the reference was to loss of a spouse, not the cans.

So sorry, Flamingo13.

Didn't get that at the first couple of posts. Thanks for pointing it out, suzy_q2010.

So sorry, Flamingo13.
