It's not really even their idea of what is exciting or boring. It states up-front that it's a calculation of various objective factors, see 'How We Created This Ranking.' It's not as if they visited the places and rated them with subjective impressions of excitement level or boring level. Sure, they decided that more places to eat and more festivals, for example, makes a place more exciting, but again, it's all based on data.

The methodology can look objective, but the ratings can still be silly if the data is flawed or the purported "places" being rated are arbitrarily defined. No one would be particularly surprised if cities and college towns are deemed more "exciting" than zip codes with subdivision of single-family homes, but these ratings purport to identify Sterling as a mecca in Virginia for live music and McLean as the best place in the state for non-chain restaurants. Seriously?

Data shmayta, it's their data, their preferences, they think we should all value their opinion just because they work for some radio station that nobody listens to, screw that, man

They didn't list my desk at work. It's numbingly boring.

Dear lord, man, it's a freakin' Top Ten list! Every magazine, newspaper, radio station, sorority group, talk show, etc. puts them out all of the time. They are everywhere. They don't mean anything to anyone. Do they all make you this angry???

There's far worse in VA, though as an HR native I'm not surprised to see Chesapeake and Suffolk on the list.

If I'm not mistaken it's a music venue for hard rock and metal acts. When I lived in that area I used to go there, when it was called Jaxx. It was a hole in the wall back then.
