Oh, and parking is a nightmare of epic proportions.

Maybe they've improved, but I won't take that bet.

Mussel Bar wasn't too overpriced for lunch; the food was pretty good. Nothing amazing.
You seem like a picky eater. You hate a lot of places in Arlington.

I don't know who's right, but according to yelp, Chasin Tails has 4 stars and Mussel Bar has 3.5.

G & M Restaurant in Linthicum, MD. Worth the drive.

I also usually buy a bag of mussels from Costco and cook them by myself.

Cafe Saint Ex was my go to....but it is not cheap. They change their recipe every so often.

Brasserie Beck also has good muscles. To me it is not the muscles as much as it is the sauce and the good bread you use to dip.

Ask your daughter what she likes and I bet that is it so look for what she wants and not just a bunch of cooked muscles.

Don't know what other eateries you're referring to, but I'm actually not a picky eater. I do expect fried foods to be crispy and Cajun food to be at least somewhat spicy.

You are correct in that Chasin' Tails used to be kind of hit and miss, but I've been there a number of times and they have really improved.

Try their fried scallops, if fried food is what you prefer - Cajun french fries are really good too.

HOWEVER,

Their steamed bags of head-on shrimp and mussels are beyond delicious - steamed in a really tasty broth in which you can pick from 2,3 different flavors and at varying spice levels.

Agree with folks about the DC recommendations - Brasserie Beck is awesome, as is Bistrot Du Coin

Also, Regent Thai restaurant in Adams Morgan has very yummy mussels in a spicy broth

Belga Cafe on 8th Street SE serves up big pots of mussels in 6-8 different kinds of broth. They are very popular with customers. Not so much with me. I'd rather go down the shore. The best I've had recently though were at McCormick & Schmick's next to the Inner Harbor water taxi landing in Baltimore. Those were really good.

Go to St. Arnolds on Jefferson in Dupont. Best mussels in DC in my opinion

The Wharf on King Street in Alexandria has excellent seafood and twice I've gotten their PEI mussels appetizer for 11.95. Oh, Man, is that good!
.. :: THE WHARF :: ..
I asked the waitstaff for extra bread to sop up the cream sauce. Uncouth? Don't care!
I'd recommend their mussels anytime.
