Hello helpful folks,

We are thinking of moving to Aldie (zip 20105, near South Riding, just off 50) but I'm concerned about my commute. I work in Tyson's, right off Greensboro.

I know 50 is a pain but that they just expanded it and there seems to be more construction. Does anyone know, roughly, how long it'd take me to get to work in the morning?

Looking at Google, it seems like in the morning I'm looking at between an hour to an hour and a half. And at nights (6.30), I'm looking at about 45 minutes.

Thanks!

That's a pretty hellish commute, probably an hour each way every day. An accident or bad weather and it's 90 minutes. I would not believe 45 minutes at 630p either.

I wouldn't do it. Yeah the housing is cheaper, but don't forget the extra $200 a month you'll be spending in gas, not to mention two hours in your car every day.

Thanks Boyd! Google provides estimated drive times based on day and what time you leave or want to arrive, but they do so with a range. They give 30-1.30. So your hour estimate seems on par.

I've done an hour before, and like you said, it's grating. Appreciate your feedback.

Does anyone on these boards do that commute frequently?

I am with Boyd888. The commute is harsh. I have friends who commute from Aldie to Reston and on a good day it takes them 45 mins. on a bad day over an hour.

I do Middleburg to DC daily, for which I pass through Aldie (the old part, not the new neighborhood home part) and Tysons. My husband does Middleburg to Tysons. If you are willing to pay for the Greenway and Toll Road, this is usually a normal, easy, albeit very expensive, commute.

While Tr. 50 was recently expanded, which helps, 606 is about to go through many years of construction, which will make the non-toll commute very difficult for many years to come.
