We just moved here from K.C. so I can't recommend any specific place other than "Famous Dave's" out in Sterling, off of Hwy 7 and Cascades Parkway. Now, I can recommend lots of really excellent places in KC...

Old Carolina BBQ in haymarket is pretty good. They are closed for the winter though. The best BBQ, IMO, is in Linden at the Apple House. It's a little out of the way, but if you're headed to Skyline Drive, you'll drive right by it. The Apple House of Linden The food is awesome there!

Willards, hands down. A great place to stop when you are going to the expo center. (But go there after you're done goingthrough the exhibit, because your hands will get messy...)

BTW, I believe the home show is at the expo center this weekend. If you haven't been, it's a great place to see spring flowers, get ideas for your home, learn about your neighborhood, and get a lot of exercise walking. And then you can stop by Willards.

For super excellent sandwiches (either sliced or minced) try Allman's Barbeque in Fredericksburg! It's located on Rt. 1 near the Univ. of Mary Washington! The sauce and the coleslaw are to die for! It's just a "hole-in- the-wall" place, but ohhhh, so good!

Those "hole-in-the-wall" places are usually the very best in barbeque.

If you are ever heading to the outer banks and find yourself east of Richmond on interstate 64 you HAVE to stop at Pierce's Bar-B-Q.... the best on the east coast. Directions as such:

From Richmond:
• Take Interstate 64 East to Lightfoot, Exit #234• Turn right at stop sign at top of ramp.• Cross overpass over Mooretown Road.• Take right - 1.2 miles from interstate onto East Mooretown Road.• Turn left at Lowe's onto Rochambeau Dr. (F137) - approximately 1.9 miles from Lowe's to Pierce's.
