We just moved here from K.C. so I can't recommend any specific place other than "Famous Dave's" out in Sterling, off of Hwy 7 and Cascades Parkway. Now, I can recommend lots of really excellent places in KC...

Old Carolina BBQ in haymarket is pretty good. They are closed for the winter though. The best BBQ, IMO, is in Linden at the Apple House. It's a little out of the way, but if you're headed to Skyline Drive, you'll drive right by it.

Willards, hands down. A great place to stop when you are going to the expo center. (But go there after you're done goingthrough the exhibit, because your hands will get messy...)

For super excellent sandwiches (either sliced or minced) try Allman's Barbeque in Fredericksburg! It's located on Rt. 1 near the Univ. of Mary Washington! The sauce and the coleslaw are to die for! It's just a "hole-in- the-wall" place, but ohhhh, so good!

Those "hole-in-the-wall" places are usually the very best in barbeque.
