Save a couple of weeks in July. Am I wrong? High tomorrow is 86, which is ok. I keep hearing that DC was basically the same as Austin or Dallas weather wise in the summer. I have to beg to differ.

Per the Capital Weather Gang, no, it hasn't been milder if you measure it by the # of 90 degree days:

https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/...-weather-gang/

The yearly average is 36 and we have already had 32 days. If you assume we will hit 90 at least 4 more times this year, then we'd be at or above the average. The forecast is for us to hit 90 this week on W, Thurs, F, and Sat.

When you have to work outside you'd never call this summer mild.

I read this, but for absolute number of sweltering days, this summer has been mild in the DMV area. I remember here in the late 80's of a week of plus 100 degree days, and numerous code red situations where the old and sick were advised to stay indoors..

For the mid Atlantic this has been an easy summer. Parts of the deep south on the other hand had there hottest July ever. Here in North Carolina we finished above average for July and many spots including Raleigh had there most humid July's ever.

Although this July is actually DC 6th warmest ever, may was at one point one of the coolest ever and June didn't deliver much heat with frequent breaks from Canadian cold fronts that dropped humidity levels.

I agree this summer, overall, is milder than in the past. However, I'm not complaining.

I'm wondering if it is milder, only because I've been walking to
and from work (30-35 minutes one-way) and it hasn't killed
me yet.

I think the absolutely awful stretch of 2010-2012 in DC skewed some of the perception of summer heat. This has been a consistently warm summer, especially since the start of July, but hasn't had the big time heat other than a short stretch a couple of weeks back. July finished in the top-10 hottest ever not because it had a bunch of 100 degree days, but because there was just no break. Yesterday morning was the first "pleasant" morning that I could remember in quite a while.

I'm in Raleigh, and I actually have been thinking that it's been milder than usual. Definitely hot and humid, but it hasn't seemed as bad as past summers. (At least not to me)
