I met with my financial planner last week. One of the assignments he gave me, find out how much it costs to live or reside in an assisted living or nursing home in this area.

Can anyone share how much they are paying for assisted living or nursing home?
What's the average price per day for care in one of these facilities?

Is there any way to predict how much long-term care will cost in the future?

Heads up, I'm 34. I want to make preparations earlier than later.

Thanks in advance for your help!

AW

"Memory Care" in Manassas is about 100K per year. A few friend had mothers with simply "dementia" and their nursing care was more like 5000 per month. OTOH< my aunt's husband lived out his last five years at an Alzheimer's facility in Dallas for about 4000 per month, and they were the ones, who exhibited the cleanest, friendliest, most professional place.

Another friend told me he had long term disability insurance...it was a .45 pistol with one round in his night stand. Unfortunately, he contracted MERSA at FINOVA and died there.

My friend's mother-in-law was in a nursing home around here. It was roughly $9,000 per month.

No, she had advanced Parkinson's so she had lost the ability to really do anything for herself. She was in there for about 15 months.

I've read that the Germans are shipping their parents to Poland for nursing care. It is at the astronomical levels described by us, there, also. It is a rapidly growing business, where I live in Thailand, but the biggest obstacle is Medicare not working out of the US (even though it would save billions). At 65; I will likely return to the US for Medicare. Until then, I'm paying about 110 USD per month for 100 USD deductible and 1 million in coverage through Tokio Marine.

Thanks for sharing the info.. FWIW, a friend in Reston showed me the bill for his mom at Tall Oaks (or similar) for one month...assisted living...she was in pretty good shape...the bill was about 7500 per month, and he got two 10% reductions for referrals, plus some add ons. it was about 7000...she did have a larger unit. He was happy with the place, and he could walk there to visit her. But, for most of us, that is pretty big money, and it was not even considered nursing care.
