Ah the grocery store wars continue

There are plenty small independent grocery stores, mostly immigrant family owned, in the County.
I wouldn't bother with Lidl but maybe someone finds this appealing?
Wiki says they have had major union issues in Europe if that affects anyones purchasing habits..

German Grocery Store Lidl Approved to Open in Chantilly
When I lived in Germany, I loved the pomfrites and that delicious cheesy, mayonnaise-like condiment that was offered vs. ketchup. Hopefully I can find it there! Thanks!

Lidl is basically the same as Aldi. Both are German budget grocery stores with little selection and you have to bag your own groceries.

Yes, and cashiers get to sit instead of stand.
better working conditions
Lidl will have more name brand food than Aldi does.
And fresh bakery inside.

not sure about "better", but standing is healthier.

Interesting...they also sell clothing, household goods and appliances. It sounds like a lot like a Super Wal-Mart or Target.

A cashier at Aldi told me that they get to sit down while doing the cashier job because, they are expected to do other things during their shifts like stocking shelves. Thus, they get a chance to sit down for part of their shifts.

It's just one aisle with a weekly changing offering of non food items. For example this week in Germany they offer bathroom accessoires, underwear and children's fashion. Next week they will offer rainwear for kids, in-line skater equipment and WLAN sound systems.
It's pretty the same like at Aldi.

Basically all cashiers seem to sit down in Europe. They do switch all the time between cashier, stocking shelves, tidying up or operating the baking machine. At least at Aldi and Lidl every employee has it's own portable checkout tray.
