Hello, after receiving the keys to a new apartment, I got a phone call stating that we owed more money because our welcome letter was improperly drafted. In going through the email trail, we were sent three drafts of the welcome letter. The first had one too many parking spots listed. That was fixed. We received the second letter and signed the second letter. Later that day, we got another email stating the the second letter was incorrect. Ok. We signed the third letter we received. On the day we received the keys, we paid the total amount from the third welcome letter. We did the inspection, received the keys and the parking pass. The day after, I received a call stating that the information was once again incorrect. I was told I would need to drop off a check as soon as possible. It was the end of the day on Saturday and my bank isn't open on Sunday. I had to explain that it would have to wait until Monday because there was no way we could submit payment. Usually, we would be able to pay the amount through their online portal. We couldn't however because our information was incorrectly entered into the system and we have no access.

Should I be worried about receiving a 5 day pay-or-quit notice since Monday will be three days in? Really, is there anything I should be worried about? Also, can they mess up our welcome letter three times then demand more money?

Thanks for any feedback

If this is a rental, and you are located in FFX County,

What are you being required to pay in this welcome letter?

I've never heard of such a thing. Typically, you pay an application fee when completing the application. Then a security deposit, first month's rent, and sometimes last month's upon signing the lease. With the exception of the application fee, all other fees/deposits should be stipulated in your lease.

You were given a 5-day pay or quit notice?

We are paying first month and prorated rent. We haven't received a pay or quit notice yet (that I know of since I'm still packing my old apartment). We don't mind paying the miscalculated difference but I'm wondering if there's something we're missing since the amount due changed three times.

So the welcome letter is stating the amount due for the prorated rent? Does your lease state any of this? It should. And your lease supersedes any welcome letter.

I would just be sure that you ultimately are paying the correct amount. You could always ask them to clarify how they calculate the prorated amount.
