I know this is wishful thinking but humor me
Where would you live in PWC if you wanted:
lowest crime and neighborhood watch
diverse neighborhood meaning nice mix of several groups
bike/walkable to nearby parks/recreation
"neighborhood feel" (farmer's market, community festivals/events, volunteer activities)
mature "eco friendly" vibe
nice shops/stores nearby
Where would you go to elementary school if you wanted:
passing SOL scores, not necessarily top scores
diverse student body to include AAs
strong learning support
extracurricular activities
diverse faculty
parent PTA but not the overzealous kind

Montclair sounds like a good fit for you although not many stores close by. Large community with a good mix of people and it seems always had activities happening when I worked in the area. Crime is low there and the schools seem to be well regarded but others can address that better than I can. Another one is Lake Ridge. Pretty much the same thing but again, you'll drive to stores.

It might be more diverse than you think. Before I retired in 09 from PWC I recall one 7-11 clerk telling me in lived in Indian Village. When I asked where this was he gave me one of the newer neighborhoods in Gainesville although I can't recall which one.

I think what is surprising to me, when looking at all the western PWC schools (Battlefield, Brentsville, Patriot) is how small the African-American population was in that area. Roughly 4% at Brentsville compared to low to mid 20s on the eastern side. I didn't realize this.

Brentsville is half the size of Battlefield and Haymarket and pulls from a small geographic area where you aren't getting as many big subdivisions of homes. Nokesville is still considered fairly rural.
