Hi Nova residents! I posted this (below) in MD forum, but wanting to get thoughts from people in VA. Thanks!

I thought about Rockville, but also thinking about VA. What suburb in VA would be most parallel please? Are we talking Fairfax or Reston...or Arlington...or Tyson. I would say at least one of those (maybe Falls Church). Thanks

ps. and if you can also share, which is better too (between Rockville and that parallel VA suburb)

Similar in what ways? Better according to what criteria? What is it that you like about Rockville?

I’m not fully sure what you’re asking but Reston is similar to Rockville.

The three corridors in Rockville running along Veirs Mill Rd, Rockville Pike, and Seven Locks Rd are different. Veirs Mill is probably closer to Route 29 in Falls Church with more immigrant neighborhoods. Rockville Pike is similar to the main shopping street along route 29 and 50 in Fairfax City. Seven Locks is similar to the affluent neighborhoods in N. Arlington to the west of Route 29.

Reston is trying to copy the third model with proximity of major highway cutting through the city (route 267 vs route 66), metro running alongside same major highway, and neighborhood village centers with each its own shopping center. Reston may be pushing for much higher density in the third category though.
