It says: "Metro DC's largest antique event! Millions of decorative collectibles" It's here again this weekend 9/18-9/19.

Has anyone gone? Does it lean toward crummy junk? expensive antiques? or what, I'm not sure whether to commit prime time to go this weekend.

Any comments, opinions, experiences would be appreciated...

It's not much crummy junk. It runs the gamut from fine antiques and fine jewelry to retro/vintage/collectible pieces (both furniture/decor and clothing/accessories), with some garden and crafty things thrown in here and there. I've been many times and helped work booths there as well. Wear very comfy shoes -- concrete floors and it can take the best part of the day to cover both buildings (if it's in both buildings this time).

Prices vary widely. I've seen nice, solid wood glass front colonial revival mahoghany secretaries in the $600-$700 range, retro Mad-Men style ceramic ashtrays for $5, $60K double-wide all original french birds-eye maple & mahoghany linen presses, $50 garden statues, etc.

I haven't been in years, but the last time I went (2003) it was fantastic, in some ways like going through a museum since they had so many unusual things. Back then a lot of the items were pricey (but some weren't that bad). I have no idea if it's still as good, since that was before the recession.

They hold the Big Flea in the winter, too, so if you're debating between this and an outdoor activity I'd enjoy the gorgeous weather while we have it.

The Capital Home Show is also coming up at the Expo Center. I think it's next weekend. If you're new here, that's a good way to compare contractors and get ideas. You can usually find coupons, so don't pay full price to get in.

There's a $10 admission to the DC Big Flea. Does anyone know of any discount coupons for this show?

I once found an Adolf Hitler action figure at the big flea, I was tempted to buy it but ultimately decided against it

No I’ve never seen a coupon, and I’m on the mailing list. You can buy tickets online now too, but I don’t see the advantage.

Check Goldstar. Sometimes they have reduced admissions to some of the events at the Dulles Expo, but I'm not sure if Big Flea participates or not.
