I'm starting a job in Arlington on May 5 and need to move to the area around May 1. I've been looking on CraigsList for rooms available and sublets, but can anyone recommend any other resources to check? Ideally, I would like to take a 3 month sublet to give me time over the summer to look for something else more long-term. I don't want to sign a year-long lease on an apartment without having lived in the area and getting a better sense of where the best place to live would be. Any help would be appreciated!

Take a look at this website. You can also call Arlington County Government for more info on housing and housing programs.

Though May 1 is a little early for this, your best bet is to sublet from a local student who will be spending the summer in another city. Marymount University and GMU Law School are both located in Arlington, and might be good places to start.

Agree with claremarie, definitely check on local college apartment sublets. However, MAKE SURE it isn't in DC, unless you have no problem paying through the nose. I know several friends in college who were working in Arlington and blindly signed onto those (not the smartest thing to do) but they were taxed 14.5% on their earnings for a "summer occupation tax." Parking at GW is also around $250 per month. American offers free parking but you will be paying nearly $1000 a month for a glorified dorm room.

You can check the real estate classifieds in washingpost.com. There is a section for rooms to rent.
