Hi everyone. I'm possibly looking to relocate to NOVA. I would be looking at working at Inova Medical in Fairfax but my boyfriend would most likely be working in DC. I am just starting to research the area as far as where to live. We would most likely rent at first. I have a 15-year-old son also so high schools are important (bonus if you know anything about great pole vaulting programs!) I was thinking maybe Arlington as I read that it is one of the top cities to live in the US. I know that if my boyfriend works in DC, he would most likely use the metro to commute. I know NOTHING about public transportation coming from Vegas that has virtually NONE. Any pointers on where to start would be greatly appreciated!!

Agreed about budget and what type of place you're looking for--rent vs buy, townhome vs SF vs Condo--you're answers will vary greatly depending on these factors.

Sorry. Looking at renting something 3-4 bedrooms...house or townhome (or condo depending) and bonus if it's furnished.

Arlington 100%. I lived in Tysons and I used to think the “soulless” comments were dramatic but living there had the excitement of watching paint dry, very lifeless and it felt like I lived in one ginormous generic shopping center.

Arlington on the other hand has really perfected city living and walkability. Lots of bars and great restaurants, easy access to DC, bike friendly, etc.

Honestly a home of that size in Arlington will run you anywhere from 4k-6k/month unfurnished and 2,800k-3500k in Alexandria, also unfurnished. Again since you haven't listed your budget no idea if those numbers would work for you, but if not, you may need to go further out from the city to get something affordable.
