I am moving to Fairfax county from Buffalo, NY in Feb. I was wondering the average cost of utilities in Fairfax county. The utilities would be, Water, Gas, Electric, Cable/Internet. Up here in Buffalo, electric is like 200 a month and cable/internet is around 110. But from what i've gathered, the electric isn't as high down there. Any help would be great.

Jon

I recently prepped this info my my real estate agent (our house is on the market), so I have it handy:

I have a 945 sq ft interior unit townhouse with two adults in southern Fairfax county.
Electric averages $83/month ($95-ish in heating/cooling season, $70 spring and fall)
Water - $40/quarter
Cable in Fairfax in generally Cox cable. Google them to find rates
Phone is Verizon. We use DSL through Verizon too. Depends on your level of service.
We don't have gas.
A lot of places in the county have private trash service. Runs about $40/month or is included in HOA fees.

I'd expect electric to be much higher for a single family home, maybe double.

We are about to move to Maryland, we had a shock yesterday when we found out water and sewer at our small apartment will average $30/month!

Living in a 1325-sq-ft. rental condo in Fairfax on the corner and top floor (wife, me, toddler, and infant), here is what I pay:
Electric: 55-95 (now-summer). Dominion
Gas: 20-60 (summer-now). Washington Gas (only gas provider possible)

Bear in mind it has been a very mild winter. Gas will be higher when it's cold.

Cox charges about $30 each for internet, cable, and phone. They have special offers all the time, though, we got high speed cable DSL for $19.95/mo. for a year.
