Well the title basically explains what I'm looking for. Any ideas on this? I'm mainly interested in expanding my social circle a bit. I already belong to a great volunteer organization I enjoy a lot. I've met quite a few people through that, but I'd like to get one more circle of friends going, just so I have more options (and so I have another line of defense against boring, "stay at home Friday nights" like tonight =P).

Since I'm already in one volunteer organization, that does a lot of projects, etc, I'd rather not join another - I'm not sure I could devote the time to any more projects and such. I'm looking for a more socially oriented club, or maybe a cycling club.

I am aware of the larger groups - Professionals in the City, the International Club of DC, and so forth - but these all have thousands of members. I get the feeling they are more a resource for finding things to do with your friends than a place where you can plan on seeing the same people at most events so you can get to know them. It takes me a LONG time to warm up to people (and vice versa), so a smaller, more intimate group would be more up my alley.

Any info people can provide would be great!

Ski Club of Washington and Things to Do DC are the two that jump to mind for me. They're both probably larger than what you're looking for though.

It is SO SO hard to meet people once you've excited the school-years, and I'm 32 y/o but don't have a single close friend which I realized when planning a Housewarming Party after having bought a home in Burke recently. Besides co-workers, I don't know anybody in DC Metro area (we've lived here for 2yrs and came from Midwest), and so I feel totally lonely and isolated and have no one to hang out and do fun activities.

Does "MeetUp" really fit the bill for meeting people? I'd love to hear more people's experience with MeetUp, because my husband & I plan to join maybe a Dinner Group or Volunteer Group to expand our social circle. Thanks!

My husband's a member of the Potomac Pedalers cycling club, and he's met lots of great folks through that group. He reports that there are members of all ages and cycling abilities, but that just about everyone he's met is very friendly and open to meeting new people.

They have lots of group rides at various levels, both on weekdays and on weekends, some of which also include lunch or some other kind of during- or after-ride socializing. There are also a couple of non-cycling social events each year.

I sent you a pm.
I went to a meetup and had a nice time. I think some of the other people had already built a relationship so it felt a lil awkward trying to get to know people but they have a lot of different groups for different interests. You could even start your own group.

I joined a meet up group about 9 months ago and have been having a blast with them. I have really expanded my circle of friends and acquaintances. I can see how different groups can have very different dynamics based on the activity/purpose of the group.
