Thinking about buying a home and renovating it. Has anyone had any experience with either of these builders - Mickey Simpson or Morris-Day? The level of craftmanship of both seems to be very nice.

I worked for Mickey Simpson waaaayyyy back in the 80's. They did single construction, high end work, and everything was subbed out to a very tight circle of contractors, if at all. I got my job through my football coach, and a couple of us were pretty much hired muscle. Everything was by the book, and no shortcuts

He would have been a better football coach if he hadn't been so busy with his quality homes. I know Coach Simpson has built in Clifton, Great Falls, and Lake Barcroft. He used to be a math teacher, too. That has probably helped his home building business survive 5 recessions.

I've done plenty of work for Morris-Day providing window treatments for his clients. Rob Morris is a great guy and they do very high quality work. You can see a lot of his houses in Arlington and they have a very distinct style of clean cut edges and excellent crafstmanship.
