My husband & I are middle-income professionals, and we are looking to hire someone to come in and clean our home on a weekly basis as I really don't delight in doing housework. I see lots of ads on Craigs List, but I'm trying to get an idea of what's a fair wage to pay someone. When I run a google search in general, it states the going wage for housekeepers is $10-15/hr., but on Craigslist I'm seeing that some people are asking like, $40hr., or $65-75/wk just to clean a small condo/apartment (which probably would only take a couple hours so that's like $30/hr.). We have a SFH, medium sized with 4 bedrooms, 2.5 bathrooms.

How much should we expect to pay for housekeeping/maid service in NOVA?? Also, has anyone had good/bad experiences with using individual cleaners found on Craigslist? Thank you!

We just recently started an every other week service and went with a recommendation from a co-worker. The price was based on square footage, number of floors (we are in a th) # of bed and bathrooms and how often they would be cleaning. We actually got more then one quote and went with my co-workers suggestion. They have come 2X so far and it has come out to about $20 per worker per hour. We have a flat rate but I was home both times so knew how long and how many workers were there. I have been quite pleased with the results.
Quite a few years ago when our kids were younger and involved in many activities and our work schedules were crazy, my dh gave me a signed contract with a maid cleaning service as a gift (he knew I would never "waste" money on something we could do {and he did help around the house}) and it truly was the gift that kept on giving!! It is very nice to have that time back..
