I think you have Voles. I had these when I lived in Syracuse. We had a lot of snow cover and when the sping thawed everything out I noticed tunnels everywhere in my yard. Called someone to remove groundhog or moles...He came out and said Oh, you have Voles and they are very hard to get rid of. He suggested I get a cat and that would keep them away. It was awful to deal with. Look up Voles online.
