A friend of my husbands child was going to a elementry school in Bristow and then had his child switched to go to one in Gainesville. I was just wondering if you could choose which elementary school your child goes to since there are alot in the area. I know that by your address you get the one you are suppose to go to....but can you try to go to another one in PWC? For example - if you are willing to drive your child to a different elementary school (Gainesville/Haymarket) would your child be allowed to go there?

Just wondering...Thanks

I don't know about PW but in Loudoun i believe you can choose to move to your child from a school classified as "over-populated" to one that is determined to be "under-populated", provided you drive your child. So it may be similar...

My question is... why move from Bristow to Gainesville? That's like trading an apple for an apple.

Actually, my neighbor moved from a townhouse in Bristow just on the other side of Rollins Ford in the Kingsbrooke division to a SFH in Morris Farm. They have kept their two elementary school age children in the elementary school in Bristow - just because they know and like the teachers. So they drive their children to school each day (or have the babysitter do it since they both work).

So in that specific case, they were allowed to keep their children in the Bristow elementary school (forget the name of it) rather than switch to Glenkirk ES. But that's just for moving from Bristow to Gainesville. If you are new in the area, not sure if you can just pick a different elementary school. All of them seem to be overcrowded, from what I can tell.

Thanks for the replies. I am pretty new to Prince William County so still trying to figure out how everything works with schooling and what not. It does appear that the elem. schools are pretty packed. Does anyone know if they are planning to build more Elem. schools? How is Glenkirk ES?

ngadude - I think what your neighbor did was smart for their kids. Are they planning to keep their kids at Bristow?

Hetather72 - Just wondering how the school districts work around here...

I was told that Prince william co. school are the best ... (95 per cent of) the quality is excellent... so ... choosing will be difficult because of most of them are crowded. Glenkirk is very very good, but soon, some of the kids are going to be moved to the new built school on linton hall road... my kids are at mountain view and I want to move somewhere else, but they wont take my children if i move to another neighborhood than Piedmont !!! My kids just love that school and do not want to change... so am I... but I wish I can change neighborhood...
anyway... the response is : you may not change your child school so easy ! why don't you ask.
(go to Prince William County Public Schools Web Site then click on find school, then you type an adress and they tell you which school) might help you.
