(Raises hand). My laptop is home with me, albeit my working conditions are hampered without the ability to connect to my supervisor or colleagues with inquiries. I plan to log on tomorrow and work.

I think that for the Feds, they make their call strictly based on if Metro is running above ground and if busses are running. If not, they don't open. I don't think they really care how bad the neighborhood streets are in Montgomery County and if you (the general you) can get out. It's really all about mass transit and how cleaned up the government facilities are.

I think Metro will be down on Thursday for the morning rush, so the Feds will close. If they are operating on Friday, the Feds will too.

I've revised my opinion.

THURSDAY: Closed
FRIDAY: Open; Unscheduled Leave

This second storm is much wimpier than what had been forecasted. Still only about a half-foot of fresh powder at my home, and I was expecting around a foot from this one when all was said and done; however, a check of radar shows the "back edge" ominously close---near Warrenton. I don't foresee Metrorail running at full operation tomorrow morning as the winds whip this snow across the tracks, hence why I predict tomorrow as another closure (along with the likelihood of many more power outages). I see the Feds opening on Friday, and I honestly hope they do. Contrary to popular belief from angry government contractor workers I've seen with dozens of comments on the Federal Eye and Washington Post, not all of we government workers are lazy and just sipping hot cocoa all week.

It's just sour grapes. Believe me, I ate sour grapes for many years!!! I was pissed that my clients and friends got off and I didn't. I was pissed that in 1996 I had to use three days of "vacation" time because I couldn't get out. It stinks to have to use your hard-earned vacation time for weather-related events. I keep thinking that if I was back at my old company, I would be out 4 vacation days now. But, if you don't like your work situations and your benefits, join the Feds yourself. Chances are, most of these "angry contractors" wouldn't want to give up other luxuries they have.
