Just received a circular for the Grand Opening of the new Bloom's in downtown Annandale.

Some of the specials are enticing (Breyers ice cream 48 ounce $1.99; 93% lean ground beef $1.99/lb, Fresh Express Salads 0.99; 8 lb navel oranges 2.99)

Anyone been there? How is it?

I went there on Wednesday because I got a bunch of $5 off $25 coupons in the mail.

It's decent, but it seems like it has less selection compared to nearby Giants and Harris Teeters. I'll probably go there until the coupons run out, but it's a bit out of my way and I don't really see anything special about it that would keep me coming back.

Bloom is an "upscaled" Food Lion. More prepared foods and semi-gourmet goodies, but still Food Lion.

I just drove out that way Saturday and was surprised to it there. Didn't have time to stop in and look, though.

I'll patronize the place...just for old time's sake. (plus, it's close)

Back in the 50's and 60's, in that exact spot, was the A&P store. I was in there hundreds of times with my mom. The nuns from St Michael's shopped there too...I still remember the sight of a half dozen nuns in full habits, each pushing carts doing their weekly grocery shopping.

Default Bloom (former A&P)

Stopped by Sunday - not as big as Giant but good prices, different selections , brands and layout. Nice to have a Supermarket on that end of Annandale again.

Bloom is not bad, its a step up from Food Lion but we don't do our major shopping there, only when we need something quick its close and convenient.

Hmm.. this is too bad. I always thought "Food Lion" was a cool name.
