Timberlane has a "modified" calendar, which means that it operates year-round. For many families, that's a deal-breaker.

Falls Church City schools have a great reputation, as do McLean schools, but not Timberlane. It has more diversity if that's important.

With the modified calendar that Timberlane supposedly has, if you decide to buy for McLean HS, then that could be your out in getting your kid to another elementary school.

But, you may need to arrange for your kid's own transportation to school.

I don't understand what that means. Why would picking one ES district within the McLean HS boundaries allow one to send one's kid to a different elementary school, unless the child ends up in the GT program at Haycock?

Moving kids around is possible if you have a valid reason, and the "valid" reason could be Timberlane's year round schedule.

Here's the FCPS information on student transfers. I don't see not liking an extended or year-round schedule as one of the enumerated bases for transfers among elementary schools.

If you have a sibling on a different calendar, you can request pupil placement:

A request for a student transfer by exception may be approved by the coordinator of Student Registration if failure to do so would require that siblings enrolled in grades K-12 attend schools on different calendars.

Ah - that explains it. However, wouldn't that only apply if someone was living in the Timber Lane district with a child in elementary school and older siblings also attending either Longfellow or McLean at the same time?

Yes, that's just how I would *think* it would work.
