I am considering a move from WA state to NOVA. I have been working in tech for many years. I am aware that the NOVA area has lots of opportunities for federal gov jobs but I have also heard those positions require security clearances.

How about for technology jobs in the private sector? At one time weren't there many tech companies in the Dulles corridor?

Thanks for your tips!

What kind of jobs are you looking for? Where is your experience? IT support? Software implementation? other?

There were. I moved here from Boston in 1997 to work in the Dulles Corridor tech sector.

The fed gov't is easy money though, so most of the industry has returned to its public sector/defense contractor roots.

Big difference here I find is less creative product marketing types, far more Cisco/Microsoft/C++ experts who implement technology that someone on the west coast created.

I'm still here because I work remotely for a company based in Texas. There are some companies like you might find in Seattle, but you have look harder than you might out there. And in fairness to the area, it's not as dead from a tech standpoint as Philly, Baltimore, Cleveland, or eastern/great lakes industrial cities.
