Gay scene in Honolulu, Oahu (home, living in, moving)

Wanted to know if anyone had any insight into the gay scene (more particularly the lesbian scene) in Honolulu. I'm coming from the East Coast where the scene is pretty healthy, so I'm expecting some decline.
How's the nightlife?
Gay friendly businesses/employers?
Recommend any non-profits/agencies/companies/public servants who might be looking for volunteers?
I plan on moving by mid-Jan 2012, any advice is helpful! Thanks in advance!

I love hanging out with my gay friends at Hula's Bar Waikiki, that's pretty much the only place I know of. But they say they normally party at establishments in and around Chinatown. I have little kid at home now, unlike when I was living in Miami, can't really go out that much anymore.
