Neighborhoods near downtown Honolulu (elementary schools, university, to live)

I've been scouring these forums for weeks
My husband will be working on the new high-rises in downtown Honolulu.
Any advice on locations/areas to live not too far to commute and with good school systems, that would be great. If it matters, we have 3 children and would like something community friendly.

We live in Manoa and it is a great community. The commute isn't too bad, only about 15-20 minutes in the morning. The schools in the area are great and many to choose from. The two neighborhood elementary schools (Manoa and Noelani) are both quality schools. There are also two public charter schools off of University Avenue, close to the H1 that offer wonderful education. Voyager Charter School and UH Lab School are the two schools. I don't know much about UH Lab School but Voyager runs K-8th grade. If you are looking for private school, Mid Pac School and Punahou are in the neighborhood as well. Hope this helps your research.
