I edited that post and took out the nasty comment in my first sentence. I don't know why it wasn't removed. I'd like the moderators/administrators to remove it please, if possible. I apologize for that Patty and I'm really sorry about your truck.

yeah she's the one who said we don't want tourists here, or something a bit more vitriolic, yeah? As a hapa, I am perfectly fine with tourists. Funny how so many non-Hawaiian linguists helps stabilize the language (well, stabilize is a relative term, I suppose)...

I appreciate her viewpoints and some of my family has similar viewpoints, though nowhere near as acidic as hers, though I would fight for her right to speak those opinions gladly. Gotta love this state

No worries. I think we've all had "internet moments" that we wish we could go back and erase. These forums don't lend themselves easily to correction---I think we have an hour or so to fix anything that we later regret.
Forgiven, forgotten. Enjoy your holiday!

We have 90 minutes to edit our posts. After that, you can always DM a request to the moderator.

I think most people truly respect someone who can admit their mistakes - sad thing is few people ever have the heart and minds to be able to do so

It's cheating since most linguists term pluralized 'you' forms as one semantic unit, like youze, youns, yinz...

I joke (though it is true) but I often wish Standard American English retained our plural you into modern times!

Nope, the correct plural of anything is never 's.

Apostrophes (see how I did that?) are properly used for contractions like "doesn't" for "does not" and "Abra'm" for Abraham, or for possessives like "Abra'm's" but never for plurals.

In the world of competitive punctuation, using 's for a plural is know as the Greengrocer's Error, because this mistake is so commonly noticed on handwritten signs in produce stands and (in the UK) greengrocers. Please notice there is no apostrophe in "greengrocers."

To be more specific, the correct plural of "y'all" is "y'alls" and "you'ns" is definitely the way to go.

I have a habit of using an apostrophe when I'm not sure how to pluralize... Mikala43 to the rescue.
