Shall we look at the top 10?

HMSA
Hawaiian Electric
U of Hawaii
Alexander & Baldwin
Hawaiian Airlines
Kaiser
Hawaii Pacific Health
Bank of Hawaii
First Hawaiian (we could argue foreign owned)
Queen's Health

Except for First Hawaiian, don't see a lot of foreign ownership in the top 10 earning companies.

HMSA joined the Blue Cross Association and became the Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association in Hawai'i, Blue Cross and Shield is a mainland company.

Kaiser is a mainland company.

Try harder whtviper, just because a name has Hawaii or Hawai'ian in it doesn't mean its locally owned. Infact most of big business and real estate and resorts are owned by foreign money or investors.

OH - foreign means mainland to you. Oh, got it.

I'm sure none of these places employ people locally. Or, pay Hawaii state taxes. Thank you for the clarification.

Perhaps we should require a passport from these people on the mainland?

Like you?

Or, kick them out - fire everybody? Never let people from the mainland come here again? Like you?

Drama much? I don't write the rules viper. Gee wonder who is more pathetic? An old local who hasn't lived in Hawai'i in a longtime or A haole who acts, thinks mainland all the way and believes Hawai'i is the mainland? I mean jesus after a year you still don't get it, its not a geographic issue. I know mainlanders who a more Hawai'i by Heart then i am.

Your a prime example of what the old timers call Haole. You need to win all the time, your arrogant, your only concerned about your investments and only concerned about local issues if only they effect you and everything is a competition. You need to stop twisting my words.

Ko Olina is a man-made beach sandwiched between the state's largest heavy-industry park, state's largest oil-fired power plant and the islands only landfill. 100% of our garbage goes there and 90% of the air pollution comes from there. Great place if you're into those kinds of things. There's a water park and Target nearby though.

Thanks for the insight pj. Things got a little dicey and off topic up there.

Oil-fired power plant? I think we can do better than that.

I agree, unfortunately in order to make change we have to agree that there is a problem and as you can tell from some peoples responses, alot of people believe everything is a ok.

Actually, it's worse than that. One coal fired plant, and one solid waste, H-Power plant..

Coal, in Hawaii, in 2014, who'd a thunk it??? And, the last thing that HECO wants to see, are more solar panels going up on private residences. There's going to be a legal battle over that one.

Aloha

I was watching some youtube news briefing about the solar panel "illegality" issues on Oahu. Maybe I'm just a simpleton, but is there any other reason that solar panels are an issue with the local utility other than the rent-seeking, profit motivation?

To much solar can overload the grid.
