Hello,

I currently live in Jacksonville and just bought land near Ocala.

Here in Jax, I can dig a hole 1.5 to 2.5 feet deep (at the most) and hit water. Even when we are having a drought I'll hit ground water by 3 or 4 feet. It's 99.5% sand though, so even after hurricane Irma the ground of property was dry in a day.

What is the ground water level around Ocala?
My property is not on a hill. After the rain from the last week there was standing water in the wooded area. The cleared areas were soggy, but no standing water.

The main reason I ask is because I want to install a ground-source geothermal heat pump, and ground water is a MUCH better heat sink than just soil. If I only have to dig a few feet, I can do it myself. If I need to go down more than 4 or 5 feet, I'll need to hire it out.

I'm also thinking of digging a pond to help with drainage, and to use the dirt to build up the spot where we plan to build and the driveway (just in case)

Thanks,
LT.Son

I would send an email to the Marion County building department. They have detail maps that may have your info.
