I am interested in a few Ocala 55 plus communities, which I briefly toured in Feb (2019). I would like to rent for whatever the least allowed time period is (7months?) on the off season in one of the communities - Stone Creek or Oak Run. If that is not possible, plan B is to rent an apartment in Ocala as a base for looking. My time frame is this July on, and I will either be in the process of selling or have sold my house in New England.

If it does end up being an apartment building I am wondering if anyone has had any good personal experience with any of the local apartment complexes.

Has anyone here spent time renting first? Did you find it helpful? I would love to hear from either those who went on to buy or those who decided not to and what they did instead.

I think you will have to contact a realtor for help. Maybe someone know of a site where rentals are posted.

This site VH4R Home Rentals in The Villages is for the Villages and you can rent for any period of time. This would work if you are looking at a number of sites in central Fl.

I agree renting first is a good idea. I think you will find the better communities require 6 month or 12 month leases.

You might try looking in Zillow https://www.zillow.com/ for possible rentals and maybe contact sells with slow moving property and see if they will rent to you. May rent to buy will work in terms of the community rental requirements.
