Well I hope your luck turns for the best for you, we live in Minnesota way up in the northern part, we put the house up on Wednesday and excepted an offer on it today, we have been looking at Palm Cay and Oak Run for a few years now, it's just been a longer journey getting this old house we have ready, now we have a July 31st closing date. We are blessed enough to own a 36 ft travel trailer that we can live in until we find a home. We also had made reservations at a RV resort there in Ocala starting in November however if all goes will we'll leave Minnesota in late September by then we'll have had enough of living in the trailer by then being we have been doing so since this last October.

I was reading over here in another post about the HOA fee in Oak Run that one is actually a Developer fee kind of thing, the Developer can raise the monthly fee yet with a Home Owners Association that run by the homeowners any monthly fees increase have to be voted on by the homeowners within the complex. So now my new next research is too find out about Palm Cay.

I think I was the one who wrote about that. And I mistakenly thought that Palm Cay and Spruce Creek North were run by their respective HOAs and that the HOAs set the fees.

I am sorry to report that I was wrong and I apologize for the misinformation. The fees paid at Palm Cay and Spruce Creek North go to the management company which is owned, I believe, by either the developer or the entity that owns the common facilities. As in other communities in the Ocala area, the homeowners own their houses and the property on which the houses are located. The roads, pool, clubhouse and other common areas are owned by a different entity and they set the fees. I will say, they do a good job with the fees, which are reasonable. The HOA represents the homeowners and coordinates between them and the management company. In fact, they're pretty good at working together, and they also organize the social activities.

In fact, this is the way it seems to be pretty much everywhere in this area for the 55+ communities. The only place that MIGHT be different is Del Webb Spruce Creek in Summerfield. They also keep their fees fairly low and offer a lot for the money. But the initial investment in a home is way higher.

Thank-you, I did some calling on both Palm Cay and Oak Run and found out what you are saying, it isn't a bad deal for us, we have also been looking at Brooksville and High point down by almost to New Port Richey area the two community there are mobile homes the HOA is 45ish bucks per month but you pay all of your utilities the rent of our travel trailer was only about 140.00 a year in one and the other was free, I'm thinking in the long run with some of the communities nearby the 200 corridor that includes like water and trash are still a better deal, we are going to be there some time around October staying at an RV resort all winter probably into Spring time if we buy during that time we might stay through the Summer.

Well, we are back on target to move into the Ocala-Silver Springs area. Our house sale closes this coming Thursday and then we will be spending some time with our son before heading south. We will be moving into an area just east of Ocala, just outside the city limits. It looks to be a temporary fix as once we arrive we will look for employment then get a "lay of the land" so to speak and decide where we want to settle more permanently. It will give us a chance to see the different areas of the city, the different HOAs and the small towns surrounding Ocala first hand and have a better assessment of the area overall.

Just curious, what community is the home in ?? I used to be a Realtor, not currently practicing, in the Ocala area.

Thank you. And thank you for your offer for help with information. I'll probably have a thousand questions when I arrive there. Wife and I are looking forward to the change and the new start.

Welcome to Florida! My husband and I bought a house in Venice on just our second visit to Florida and made the cross country trip here in May. We could not be happier! Of course the conventional wisdom is to rent first but for us it was actually easier to buy a home than find an acceptable rental (we have three dogs) and then deal with moving again once we found a house.

We started our search up in the Ocala area and made our way down to Sarasota and Venice and that was the area that most appealed to us. The posters on CD were incredibly helpful. Good luck with your new adventures in Florida!

Well we finally made it to Ocala. We ended up in a place called Ocala East Villas, on the east side, just outside the city limits in Marion County. My wife and I really like the locale. It is quiet here and we can walk the complex. It seems to be pretty safe crime-wise. Yet we are a 5-7 minute drive to SR 40 and all of the shopping that we need (Aldi, Publix, Walmart, Lowes, Dollar Tree and a bunch of smaller businesses) Plus we aren't far from the downtown and the city/state offices. The only thing that is a bit of a drive away are Barnes & Noble, Ollies and Target. There are several housing HOAs/complexes out in this area and we are going to check them out as time goes on to see if there is a bit of a better place to move to. But for right now, we are pleased that we ended up out this way and not south on 200 in one of the HOAs down there.
