Ohio Gov. John Kasich names minority affairs director | cleveland.com

What do you think of this? Other than this recent "made up" appointee, Kasich has 0 minorities in his cabinet. They are literally all white. This feels like a 1950s mentality. I thought we had moved to a point where all major races had representation in government. Diversity in government is essential for this state if we want to succeed. It is a diverse state with many different types of people. If the needs of certain groups are not accounted for by the government, the whole state will suffer. Just as the early american colonists deserved representation from their governing bodies, minorities deserve representation as well.

Kasich clearly lacks understanding of the importance of diversity, and other basic issues, and for this reason he scares the living crap out of me. I truly pray for our state these next four years, I fear Kasich will be the worst governor of my lifetime.

The governor should be judged based on how his policies affect the lives of Ohioans rather than by the racial makeup of his cabinet. Ohio elected him governor because he said he would put policies in place that will attract jobs and economic growth to the state. Shouldn't we judge Kasich and his administration based on whether he and his administration succeed at achieving those goals? That's what people really care about.

Everyone gets representation in the state legislature and everyone gets to vote so everyone gets equal representation. Who says that Kasich represents all white people? Why does someone represent you just because they are of the same ethnicity?
Ohio's media outlets have been smearing Kasich since before he took office and I think there is more to it than the racial makeup of his cabinet.

I say you find the best person to do the job, and hire him/her, whether they be White, Black, Asian, Hispanic, etc. I don't think that race should play a role in whether or not someone gets a job or not.

Kinda makes wonder that if he picks his cabinet in this manner, what's his politics going to be like when it come to money and help in certain sections of the cities and state. We already know his standing on the progression of Ohio's transportation systems.

You aren't going to be the only one. I like how the guy is making huge generalizations like he won by a landslide. He needs to take a look at the poll results again. He is taking a lot of credit from Strickland too. Let's see where the economy goes from here. I am waiting to see the list of companies that are willing to move to Ohio now that he is governor, and how many new projects are going to be under way in our city cores now that he is governor.

Such an idiot... lol

He seem to me to be one of those that like most have pet projects, but his project will only be benefiting himself and his close constitutes. Just look who he has been apointing into offices all around him.

yep

letting race play a factor either way (ie: requiring some diversity or avoiding it entirely) is misguided and stupid. the best should be hired and if they are all white (or black...or brown, etc) then so be it.

What you don't understand is that if a group feels they are excluded, whether this is perceived or actual, that group will feel that they are less able to succeed in society. This creates unrest within that group, which causes the state as a whole to suffer. People want representation of their groups in government, and in reality this is only fair, even more so if the group is a large one in the state. Politics is a game, and it's not always about hiring what one person considers to be "the most qualified people". In this country the government is supposed to represent the people, ALL the people, not one man and his own interests.
