The Plain Dealer reports that a Cleveland Clinic resident, who was a citizen of Sudan, but had been a resident of Saudi Arabia before coming to the U.S. and was on vacation in Saudi Arabia, was barred reentry to the U.S. and put on a plane back to Saudi Arabia as part of the new Trump ban on entry to the U.S. of citizen from 7 predominately Muslim nations.

<<An internal medicine resident at the Cleveland Clinic who is a citizen of Sudan said Saturday that she was detained in New York when she was trying to return to Ohio after a trip to Saudi Arabia and was put on a plane back to the Middle East. Dr. Suha Abushamma, who has worked at the Clinic since July on a work visa, left the U.S. one day after an executive order issued by President Donald Trump. The executive order included a crackdown on immigration from refugees and citizens of seven majority-Muslim countries.
Abushamma, 26, of Cleveland Heights, lived in Saudi Arabia before being hired at the Clinic. She is a Muslim woman and a citizen of Sudan....
A federal law enforcement official told The Associated Press that Trump's executive order covered legal permanent residents, or green card holders of the U.S., and those with visas who were out of the United States after Friday.
Shortly after Abushamma was placed on a plane to Saudia Arabia, U.S. District Judge Ann Donnelly issued an order barring U.S. border agents from removing anyone who arrived in the U.S. with a valid visa from the seven countries listed in the executive order. It also covered anyone with an approved refugee application.

Cleveland Clinic resident from Sudan says she was denied entry back into U.S. after Middle East trip | cleveland.com

How many believe that President Trump's executive order banning entry into the U.S. of citizens of seven majority-Muslim countries was poorly conceived to the extent it covered permanent residents and those with work visas who had been living in the U.S. but were caught outside the country?

Both Ohio Senators Rob Portman and Sherrod Brown have spoken out against the new ban.

This Trump policy is likely to be disastrous for U.S. foreign policy. E.g., one of the included countries with a travel ban to the U.S. is Iraq, where the U.S. has fought a costly war, currently has thousands of troops stationed, and where we are attempting to offset Iranian influence. Trump has just marginalized the considerable number of U.S. allies in Iraq and likely negated much of the American sacrifices made on behalf of Iraq.

It also likely will impact exports from Ohio, as many of the countries included in the ban are significant purchasers of U.S. products. E.g., Iran recently made a massive purchase of U.S. Boeing planes, whose engines might be supplied by GE's engine business, headquartered in Cincinnati.

Trump's executive order excluded Saudi Arabia and Egypt, which have substantial terrorist movements, but where Trump has business interests.

<<The executive order excluded some countries that have been tied to terrorism, including Saudi Arabia and Egypt. As a business executive, Trump has formed companies there. As noted by NPR and others, the 19 terrorists in the Sept. 11 attacks were from Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Lebanon and the United Arab Emirates, which are not on the president's no-entry list. >>

Lol. Its been done by recent presidents. I have no problem with a 90-120 day vetting process to help secure our country. Its a territory ban.

It seems that it is just outright illegal and shall be struck down in courts. The Immigration and Nationality Act of 1965 eliminated race, ancestry, and national origin as basis for immigration.

They DELAYED 109 out of over 325,000....only the media could make sunshine out of that.....it's reaching hysterical levels.....of course, the same "concerns" voiced on the left will be the exact same "concerned" voices that blame the politicians if another 2 planes land in their buildings......

Crickets.....

This not a big deal. It's TEMPORARY measure until such time we can secure the borders (novel) and go from there.....will more come in? You bet...will they at least be checked a bit prior? Thankfully, yes.

Relax, there will be all the world's population still trickling in.....mostly good....they haven't turned us into the Iron curtain just yet but, one can start to appreciate the temporary delay based on San Bernadino, Orlando nightclub shooting, Boston bombing, you know, where innocent americans were slaughtered.....a thought...

And those instances have nothing to do with this whatsoever. They were domestic terrorism.

Boston bombing - they were American citizens originally from Kyrgyzstan/Chechnya.
Orlando nightclub shooter - straight up American citizen born and raised here
San Bernadion - American citizen born and raised here who married someone from Pakistan/Saudi Arabia brought in on a fiancee visa which is heavily screened

Maybe their parents shouldn't have been allowed in. We are not talking about families that have been here for generations.

Even their parents weren't from any of the countries in this list.

This move is straight up illegal, unconstitutional, and unamerican.

No big deal???

In one fell swoop, Trump is impairing the international reputation of the Cleveland Clinic and other major U.S. medical centers that have spent decades building international client pipelines essential for their viability.

<< Another major health system, Cleveland Clinic, told STAT that it had nine patients scheduled to come to the United States for care from the affected countries....

“These are very, very ill patients,” Pamela Paulk, president of Johns Hopkins Medicine International, told STAT. “In most cases, these are not cases to be postponed.”>>

https://www.statnews.com/2017/01/30/...der-hospitals/

If Trump expands the ban to Saudi Arabia, it could be crippling for the Cleveland Clinic, which has in the past served the Saudi royal family. Even if the ban is lifted, Muslims in the future who might once have chosen U.S. medical institutions for advanced care now will turn to other nations.

Consider the impact on U.S. multinationals who need to market globally and bring foreign employees and clients to the U.S. for training.

As for your 109 number, it's another Trump "alternative fact."

You're not counting the tens of thousands now barred from travel to the U.S., some of whom are important U.S. allies and employees of U.S. multinationals.

How stupid is it to bar one of our top Iraqi allies in the fight against terrorism from visiting his family in the U.S.?

Iraqi general who works with American military kept from visiting U.S. - CBS News

Top Iraqi general barred from entering U.S. to visit family - Videos - CBS News

Trump better get his head straight fast or he's going to make the U.S. a pariah in the Middle East, or is this one of the tasks assigned to him by Putin?

Reportedly there are 17,000 university students in the U.S. from the currently seven designated countries.

Ohio colleges and universities appear universally opposed to the Trump travel ban.
