I am from Columbus and recently moved to New York to be in a relationship that became abusive. I have nowhere to go back to to stay to find a place and I am a vet, and with my PTSD cannot psychologically live in a bad area of Columbus but only have about $500 a month to afford in rent until I can get back on my feet. Columbus is expensive for those parts, and am willing to live within an hour of the city until then. Does anyone know of a halfway decent area that is cheap that fits this bill?

It's tough to know the rental market in any given town since usually only the high-end apartment complexes are advertised online. I know here in Springfield there are small apartments in decent areas for under $500. I would also look at smaller towns closer to Columbus such as London/West Jefferson, Marysville, Delaware, etc.
