It rubs me the wrong way when people change the rules, when they know they're likely going to lose. That's what made me a no voter, initially. But now I think the change in rules regarding getting an amendment change on the ballot at all (signatures from all 88 counties, instead of just 44, and no cure period) is the real, dangerous issue.

The difference it is already way harder for voters to run amok.

Just getting the abortion initiative on the ballot took a year of canvassing all over the state to get over 400k signatures to even place it on the ballot. From there, it then also needs 50 percent, plus 1 support to pass (or 60 percent if Issue 1 succeeds).

Do you know how hard it was for Issue 1 to get on the ballot? It was one day for the House to vote on it (100 people) and then one other day for the Senate to vote on it (33 people). They didn't even bring it to a vote until 3 months ago, once it was certain the abortion amendment would meet the 400k requirement and actually had about 700 to 800k supporting.

Plus your argument is BS to begin with because voters running amok is called ... Democracy.

Sadly very true, but USA is a Republic not a democracy.

This is about abortion plain and simple, the commercials they are running are ridiculous, if you don’t vote yes the trans gender queers will take your kids for sex change surgery without your consent. The scary thing is that people actually believe this crap, they just can’t get enough support from the abortion issue alone.

This has been a big debate on the Nextdoor app if any of you are on there, it’s against the terms of service to discuss politics but this issue has been big in my area.
Re NextDoor—not against terms of use if you create a private group and discuss among yourselves vs the general forum

And they legislature is going to do the same thing in FL if it hasn’t already—trying to limit the right to pass voter-generated amendments

I hope people in Ohio do come out and strike this down and then show up to vote in Nov and kick out the GOP legislators who are behind it
Of course NOT just the Ohio legislators but plenty of special interest groups in other states who have never even been in Ohio

PS—I am FL voter and thus not eligible to vote—but if I were…

Some people would say that voters running amok is what happens Jan 6

We had a similar vote in S Dakota a while back. As I recall, it was a summer election to raise the threshold to 60% ... so an expansion of Medicaid could be defeated in November. Plus in general, our legislators didn't like it that the peasants aka the taxpayers were putting forth initiatives that they didn't like and wanted to make it harder for them to pass. The whole attempt to raise the bar to 60% failed as it was presented by the opposition as an attempt at minority rule.

Lol, that was voters on the losing side trying to overthrow the majority. Very different than voters "running amok" at the ballot box.

Whatever, Issue 1 (just like the Jan. 6 "voters") both took Ls.

They took a huge L today. Now let’s thrash LaRose and the rest of the dictatorial scum again in November.
