Hi guys!

I'll be driving through Oklahoma next week and staying overnight in Okla City. Is it worth my while to have dinner at the Cattleman Steakhouse? Is there a long line to get in (on a Thursday night)? Prices too high?

Thanks!

Cattleman's is pretty good. It is pretty basic in it's menu but they do well with what they serve. It's really laid back atmosphere just like you would think. It's kind of fun because of it's history. It is a century old give or take and was originally a place where the guys selling cattle at the stockyards would eat. I believe it was in the '30s that the long time owner won a card game and took possession of the restaurant. A few presidents and a number of celebrities have stopped to eat there through the years and they have pictures everywhere.

The stockyards district is pretty interesting and is one of the areas that OKC is trying to develop as a tourist place. I would call them about the Thursday and see what they say because it CAN be a wait, but I've never had to. I think prices are reasonable but I haven't been there is a few years so I can't give you current info. I'm sure they have a website.

I believe there is a new steakhouse down there that has just opened or is getting ready to open that I read about in the paper and it looked really cool. They are going with a more wild west motif than Cattleman's has. But the whole idea down there is to have more places so that the Stockyards district attracts more people.

Let us know what you think if you go there. Safe travels,

I seriously doubt anyone could top Cattlemen's in the steak department. I have eaten there for years and my son and I just had 'the best' ribeye ever just a few weeks ago. It was his first trip there and definitely made a believer out of him. I recommend it to anyone!

Mahogany and Jamil's also have great steaks. Bring all of your bank account though!
