I thought I posted this in the OKC forum but apparently did so in the general OK forum...I'm sorry if making a new thread is bad manners!
------
My family has been going through some difficulties for a while, and it is time to face facts that what's best for me and my 3 y/o daughter is to make a fresh start somewhere. We have dear friends in OKC, who we have visited frequently, and so I'm somewhat familiar with the area and like it quite a bit.
My question is if anyone knows of a good gated community with town homes or "garden homes"? I'm a young female physician, would be working downtown, and don't have time to maintain a large yard...that said, I want my kid to have access to outdoor play areas and we do have a large dog. I may be asking for too much I would prefer to buy rather than rent, with a budget of 300k...Also adding that I would be working downtown but not opposed to commuting in from as far as Edmond.

Lastly, I am totally open to life advice from strangers at this point. The ending of my marriage has been pretty horrific, so not sure I want to immediately jump into something new, but I would like to find someone eventually. I want my daughter to have a stable father figure. I'm 33...does buying something small make sense on the OKC housing market? Are there other professionals in my age range who aren't married in the OKC area? I'm Christian, and will definitely be joining a church (I'm familiar with this being the way to make social connections in the South). I'm also considering Dallas, but don't know anyone there. I'm hopeful my friends in OKC can help me meet people (they seem pretty sure that they can).

Gosh, this turned out long...sorry for rambling. Appreciate any help or suggestions that could be thrown my way.

There are a couple of nice looking town houses on Fretz Ave in Edmond within your price range.

Fretz is a bit close to the railroad tracks, but I have lived there more than once and you get use to it. Once when I was single I lived that was about 20' from the tracks. And later when I was married and had a young kiddo we lived off Fretz about a block from the tracks. It didn't wake my kiddo at all.

This area is also right off Broadway Extension (aka Hwy 77) which will take you right into the heart of OKC. Also not far from Mitch or Hafer parks.

There are a couple other higher priced "town houses" just east of I-35 and 2nd street. Real close to I-35 and also close to Arcadia Lake.

There are also some new town houses on Western between 164th and 150th that are near or just above your 300K budget. This is a nice area, I spent my teen years living just north of 164th and Western. You would be close to the turnpike and the mall.

Edmond has more than it's share of Churches, some have a Mother's Day out program as well. Edmond schools generally rank pretty high also, if you are thinking that far ahead.

There are actually quite a few town houses listed in Edmond, but these were at the higher end as far as asking price.

I can't speak for any other areas around the city as I am not familiar with any others, more than just driving through them.

Good luck, I am sure everything will work out fine.
If you have any other questions let us know.

freshstart404,

This is your lucky day...….or post......or whatever. We have a guy on the board named Atlguy 39. He's been looking for another transplant like yourself to get to know. He has pretty high standards but that's not necessarily a bad thing. Direct message him on the board. He would probably enjoy visiting with you.
