Does anyone have any experience with assisted living facilities? I'm starting my search for an assisted living facility for my elderly mother, who has insisted on living alone the past 20 years but has now gotten to the point where she can no longer keep up with the demands of daily life. Her house reeks of urine, her floors covered in trash, dirty dishes, rotting food, etc. She refuses to wear her adult undergarment (ie: diaper) most of the time and so she smells of urine most of the time. Recently she fell in her home and couldn't get back up or reach a phone. It was 18 hours before I realized something was amiss and went over there. My poor mother was lying in her own urine for over 18 hours. And this isn't the first incident like this. Obviously her situation has become untenable.

Requirements:
----------------
Private living space with your own bedroom, kitchen, etc.
Access to your own driveway or parking space (she still drives on occasion).
Access to bathing and dressing assistance when needed.
Mobility assistance as needed.
Housekeeping services.
Access to a nurse as needed.

Any recommendations? Hoping to find a good facility in the OKC\Moore area.

Have you spoken with her physician?
Have you gotten her one of those 24/7 access pendants?
Do you feel like it is safe for her and others to drive?

I think that you should post in the Caregiving Forum and ask what you can do for her now to keep her safe, clean, and well nourished until you find a place. They can also answer your questions about choosing a facility.
