I'm sort of a local history buff and the old OKC schools interest me. There seem to be a lot of them that are shut down or being used for other things. Willard, Riverside, Whittier, Davis, Patrick Henry, and others. I have some questions maybe someone can answer:

Did Page-Woodson and Truman originally have other names?
Where was Culbertson?
Was there a school in the old Walnut Grove neighborhood?
Was the building where Jesus House is once a school?
What happened to John Ross?

These old buildings and their legacies are part of OKC's history.

Anyone have any thoughts, memories, or information they would like to share?

I know that Mt. Saint Marys is an old school that still operates. It was established in 1903 and is the oldest school in the state.

John Ross was torn down sometime after the school was closed in 1982.

Culbertson is on the OU Health Sciences Center campus just south of Presbyterian Hospital. It used to house human resources; not sure if it still does.

Truman was built in 1923 and I believe always called Truman.

There was a Walnut Grove Elem School located at 500 S. Durland.

I do not believe Page-Woodson was the original name. There were formerly schools called Page and Woodson. Info on this building should be in the community.

There was an elementary school. I didn't go there, but it was a familiar name.

Default John Ross Elementary

I have a few memories of John Ross as I went to elementary school there until 5th grade. Would love to know if anyone has any photos of the building.

I goggled Walnut Grove Elementary to see when it was built and it lead me to this thread. I did discover an article in the Daily Oklahoma dated September 7, 1907 stated a two room school was under construction and almost completed called Walnut Grove. I also had a vista teacher from OU that tutored me in English in Walnut Grove. Really trying to remember his name.

I would love to get a pic of that.
