I appreciate the responses to my earlier query re: Ponca City. I have put in for a job there and have my fingers crossed. It was nice to have the info provided in that thread about the town.

Today I came upon another job posting in my chosen field that would be in the Haskell/Warner area. I realize these are both very small towns. I was thinking my family would end up living in Muskogee or Ft. Gibson if I were to land this position.

I have spent time in both Muskogee and Ft. Gibson, but it's been many years. I'd love to hear from anyone who knows those places. Ft. Gibson would be about 10-15 miles further from my work but my feeling is it is a much nicer town.

Again, any thoughts, suggestions, advice, ideas?

I guess if we could find a place outside a town out in the country that might suit us too if it were under the right circumstances and close enough to the job. Maybe somewhere between Muskogee and Haskell/Warner?

There doesn't seem to be much around there as far as actual towns go, but as I say, that might be okay.

Thanks in advance!

My initial impression and opinion of Muskogee/Ft. Gibson, is that they are quite insular but beautiful surrounding area/topography.

I think Rubi actually lives in Muskogee so I'm sure she'll have some good insights.

If you needed a city fix it's short drive north to T-Town as you well know or, if you don't mind Arkansas, Fort Smith is a nice town to the east.

Haskell is about 12 miles west and Warner about 20 plus miles south of Muskogee. According to the map, they are about 41 miles apart with a lot of land in between for maybe finding a place in the country. I don't think I've ever been to Warner, but have passed through Haskell many times. I know very little about Ft Gibson, other than 3 women who live there drive to Muskogee to play bridge. I did go to Ft Gibson to visit a friend in a nursing home and discovered it smelled just as bad as nursing homes I've visited in Muskogee. I like Muskogee all right and while some people I know often go to Tulsa, I've not gone there in a longtime. I'm sure some go to Ft Smith, but I don't. Cost of living is about the same in Ft Gibson or Muskogee. There's a very active little theatre group in Muskogee. I subscribe to the daily newspaper, which duly lists all the killings on the front page... seems to be about 3 a week.

If there is some specific information you're interested in, I'll be happy to check into it for you.

From what I gather, Ft. Gibson is basically suburban Muskogee. There is not much in Warner except for the college which certainly is an excellent amenity for a town of 1500. I hear Muskogee is kind of rough but I don't know much about it other than Honor Heights park is lovely. Never been to Haskell. That stretch of country north of Muskogee is one of the few stretches of Oklahoma I've never seen.
