In Oregon (no dangerous snakes where I live),the cats proudly drag home every snake and lizard they can find.I worry about them heading for the tall grass.I told hubby we can condition them to danger using a rattle but have no idea what do about water snakes. We have a creek behind us here, the dog jumps in during hot weather and the cats patrol it.

Fleas and Ticks. And heartworm. I was paying high prices for heart worm meds, and then a farmer showed me what he bought at the Feed and Grain store. I am planning on using tick and flea granules in the yard again, and maybe I won't have to use tick or flea stuff on my dog, not unless we go for a walk in the woods, which I doubt.

April '96 - Miracle Liquid Wormers He begins the treatment in March, and then ends it I think in November. I would have to look it up.

IVERMECTON

Cause of ivermectin sensitivity in Collies determined at the College of Veterinary Medicine, Washington State University not to be used in collies, hounds, working dogs. I guess I can't use it afterall.

Yes, that's why our border collie mix and our lab/shep mix take Interceptor (heartworm preventative). I don't think many people know this information. Hopefully, if they are buying heartworm rx's the vet is asking what type of dog it's for.

Another tid-bit our vet gave us, is when treating with Frontline Plus, do not wash the dog 72 hours prior to treatment or 72 hours after treatment to get optimal performance. A friend of ours called last night and wondered why all of a sudden this month the flea and tic tx wasn't working (his dog had numerous tics on her). Then he shared that after he treated his dog that she was caught out in the massive rain storm we had here last week while staying with his dad (our friend had to go out of town). Now, our friend has to wait before he can put any more topical tx on her. I suggested a good flea and tic bath, flea and tic collar and treating his yard. Told him to read all warning labels too.

you know i almost used it last month, but i had some heartworm meds left and decided to use them instead of tossing them out, and just in time i learned that i can's use that ivermectin. to think that i could have really harmed my dog.

Our german shepherds are prone to Ehrlichiosis. They get nose bleeds from it. And one year, one of them had to get a blood transfusion. But remember our shepherds are strictly outside dogs. Our inside dogs have gotten it, although we do pick ticks off them constantly.

We don't buy any meds from wal-mart, its always from the vet.

Default Don't forget Guinea Fowl!

If you're in the country, don't overlook Mother Nature's flea and tick eradicators, the guinea!

Buy a few fowl-ettes, home them to a tree or coop for three months, then let them free range.

They will keep fleas/ticks and other nuisance pest populations down, naturally and reliably.

You will also have a built-in home security alarm, as nothing approaches a guinea without a very vocal announcment!

If only those guineas could survive in the wild, we would have our tick problems solved.
