besides, it time for Omaha to move FORWARD and be in a better part of the city where the main flagship library can serve a more diverse crowd of people.
First, how in the hell is the Crossroads area a "better" part of the city than Downtown? Residential aside, I can't think of a single thing that makes it "better". And why would you want to move it to a centralized location? I can understand that idea in theory, but due to the Riverfront, Omaha's downtown is not in a centralized location. Taking away from Downtown to add to central Omaha would be a bad move.

for who or whom would Taking away from Downtown to add to central Omaha would be a bad move

considering mid-town is more of a centralized location, I would think being in a bigger and better part of the city would benefit all

I mean more traffic comes by crossroads mall area on dodge street than on 14th or 15th and farnam.

plus, like I have said:

there will still be a library in downtown omaha, but it wont be just as big as the main location currently is.

they plan to build a small library for downtown area once the main one moves to it's better location in a few years

so there will still be a library in downtown omaha, but it wont be just as big as the main location that is currently in downtown area

that and I saying moving to a better location is best for the city.

plus, the library would be more city bus accessible.

the 8 and 18 and 13 and 2 routes all go to crossroads mall area.

plus there would be more parking (downtown library 's parking system is a joke)

I say lets move Omaha FORWARD folks and let Downtown 's Library be in a more accessible and suitable location for all in Omaha

72nd and Dodge is not Midtown.

Probably. We also want to bring more traffic and activity Downtown.

You want to move Omaha forward by weakening its Downtown core?

yes it is. thanks to elkhorn being annexed years ago, technically 72nd and dodge counts as midtown

how is moving the library to a bigger and better location that better serves all of omaha is "weakening Downtown 's core"

I am pretty sure with Film Streams and Old Market area and Holland Center and the Century Link Center and the Baseball Stadium and Orpehum Theatre many other places to go to in downtown Omaha

Downtown will survive

Just like the CVS at 49th and dodge didnt cause WW3 like some anti CVS zealots said, Downtown will survive with a new, smaller library

(and no, moving downtown's library to a more bigger and better location wont cause a Zombie Apocalypse or the events from This is the End movie

and the main library being in the CENTRAL part of the city will be better for Omaha 's future.

so downtown wont be hurt. they are just looking FORWARD for bettering Omaha's libraries.

Plus, more people will attend the library if it is in a better and bigger and more centralized location

I have a better idea. Let's replace the Dale Clark Library with a new, really fancy and awesome flagship library, and put a smaller but also nice library in the Crossroads area.

that is why Dale Clark Library is moving to crossroads mall:

new, really fancy and awesome flagship library

it will help revitalize crossroads mall area.

plus, if Nebraska Furniture Mart can be at 72nd and Jones area and not downtown, I am sure the Main Library can be there at Crossroads Mall area.

as a actual citizen of the Omaha area

I am btw for a smaller library for downtown

and a new new, really fancy and awesome flagship library in the central part of the city

will in long run help Omaha 's libraries

plus unlike downtown, crossroads mall has Residential neighborhoods. It would be great for the neighborhoods.

I think it's kind of strange to not have the flagship library Downtown. I'm not aware of any other (large) city in which this is the case. The city of Minneapolis recently did a major facelift on their library which is actually on the edge of a re-developing area of Downtown (an area that suffered from the 60's area "renewal"). Anyway, the Library is a big draw to the area and taking it out of Downtown would leave a hole in the activity of the district. Granted Minneapolis is built around its Downtown and its the suburbs that sprawl in every direction, Omaha is an interesting case as it annexes land to the west. If Downtown Omaha is like Downtown Mpls or other large cities, the Downtown area is seeing a large increase in the Downtown population and transit options to Downtown are improving. I would think Omaha could focus more of its energy on that and doing everything it can to keep its core as vital to the City as possible, otherwise, without a vital Downtown, a city is not really a city. (end of rambling rant)

Not having the flagship library downtown would be a huge joke and the butt of it would be the city. Crossroads isn't midtown and isn't near the economic or cultural center for the city that DTO is. If we ever get a new modern flagship library(which we wont because we don't have the cash) it will be downtown. The proposed one at 72nd will replace the one at 90th and Dodge and will be nice, but not outstanding.

Anyways I think the Clark branch can be a cool nod to a time period if it lasts a little longer. If they get rid of the crappy parking moat and clean it up a little it could be pretty unique.
