The old market has many interesting restaurants; almost all of which are very quirky, interesting places with very average food. Cruise South 24th street between vinton and Q streets...hit the taco trucks. all of the other recommendations on here are good, although that link to another thread mainly discusses "what is your favorite fast food in Omaha".

Actually no it is not a link to "fast food" as there are recommendations to non fast food places.

If you're "out west" check out Dante at 168th & center for Neapolitan pizza and some authentic Italian dishes (ie, not the American version of Italian food) and Le Voltaire at 156th and West Dodge for classic French cuisine in a casual setting.

Food & Wine – Dante Pizzeria

If you like southern comfort food, Big Mama's Kitchen is great. Some of the old school Omaha restaurants like Caniglia's or Lo Solo Mio might be worth checking out, but mostly because they have been around forever.

I also forgot to mention Ted & Wally's ice cream shop in the Old Market. Get dessert there one night, it is amazing.

I think I had Big Mama's mac 'n cheese at the Taste of Omaha once. Whatever restaurant made it...it was GOOD!

Shucks at 19th and Leavenworth is pretty good sea food. And then of course there are the burger places of the city, Stella's and Dinker's. Blue and Hiro are the city's main sushi places, and then there are the steak houses like Gorat's and Piccolo Pete's. Just a few ideas.
