Does Omaha or Lincoln have a repetable (sp) hospital for this surgery? I was told Omaha has one of the best hospitals around.

I will be traveling from McCook, NE in near future for this surgery and follow up stuff. I was also wondering how the bus system is. I will be coming via Amtrack and will need easy, handicap service from train depot to hospital.

Otherwise I will be going to Denver,CO.

Thanks for any info.

First of all, I can't really help you too much with the hospitals. I don't know enough about their areas of forte, but I'm pretty sure that you could get excellent care at any number of them. The nice thing about Omaha having quite a few hospitals, is that there's a fierce underlying competition that drives all of them to constantly improve. Omaha is becoming quite well known as a center for medical care, and I have a lot of confidence in our hospitals.

Are you sure Amtrak is a better way for you to come than Greyhound? I honestly do not know, but I'm just wondering out loud.

Both the Amtrak and Greyhound stations are downtown, so that doesn't make much difference.

I don't know how well the Metro Transit Buses (MAT) accommodate handicapped passengers. Here's their website. MAT 2009

There is also Prince Of The Road. I have a friend who works there, and I know it's a good company. Prince Of The Road

The Nebraska Medical Center often brags about its Bariatric care, so I think you'll be fine.

Thanks for info. I would be to uncomfortable on a bus. My left hip needs replaced and it basicly won't bend anymore. I have a lot of trouble just doing basic walking and getting into and out of chairs plus I am way to overweight to sit in a bus seat and maybe train seat too. Otherwise we will travel in our conversion full size van.

It will be probably 4 to 6 months before I can get surgery since I have to get counciling etc. before surgery. I will keep a written account on city-data with whats happening after I get going. Thanks for info.

I thought Scottsbluff has a good program. They do more lap banding then gastric bypass, which I think is the better way, less invasive and better control. If your in Mccook wouldnt SB be closer then Lincoln or Omaha. You should check into it.
