I never understood why some people gripe because of it being "too cold" in an office setting. At least you can put on a sweater if you are too cold, but if its too hot are you going to allow someone to strip down and take off their clothes, I doubt that.

Can you please point out where on this thread I said 78* was a happy medium?

I pointed out my annoyance with people putting words into my mouth, making assumptions, or just plain out not reading what was written. You can't have a logical discussion when people do any of the above, so I'm after I yet again mop up this round of assumptions, I'm off of this thread, because it has no hope of going anywhere when people aren't READING what is WRITTEN.

Again, see my comment above. Please READ what is WRITTEN (not what you assume someone is saying, or just flat out putting words into their mouths) so threads can have any chance of being productive.

It's not a matter of a sweater or not, it's a matter of pain. Because cold causes physical pain in some, whereas those with physical pain from being a happy medium typically have chronic issues no matter what temperature it is.

In nursing school they teach that the majority of humans prefer 75-76* (an easy number to remember since it's my personal fave temp, again, not factoring in air speed, humidity, excessive clothing, direct heat source / sun, etc).

Therefore, one can make the assumption that an office at 72* is likely too cold, and an office at 78* is likely a little too hot. Why can few on this board seem to realize that in addition to either extreme there is indeed also a thing called medium?

You are absolutely correct! Office I worked in wanted to keep the a/c at 69-71, with 72 being max. I had to wear a heavy sweater plus use a space heater to keep warm. My joints were killing me too, and all I could think about was being cold, it was near impossible to focus on work-related issues. The only ones on our floor who felt comfy were those in the outer offices that had sunshine pouring in through the windows.

One time the a/c went up to 75 degrees and it felt wonderful! We were thrilled, until we were told there was a malfunction and they had the a/c repair people out to get the temp back down again. Rats!

This was in a 5-story bldg, we were on the top floor, the floors below us the temp felt very nice; so have no idea why it felt so cold only on our floor.

I don't know about most of you but 78 degrees is much more comfortable at home than at work due to many reasons.

78 was the number being thrown around in here and by Edison. Maybe you should volunteer actual opinions rather than make vague statements while expecting people to read your mind.

And as far as pain, again, a sweater can help pain. I'm born to where heat causes me great discomfort. My ancestors are adapted to far northern latitudes.

Be glad you don't live in Japan. They have some public campaign encouraging office buildings to set the thermostat to 80 degrees or something like that. I can't imagine how miserable that would be in a dress shirt and slacks.

I could say the same for those who feel hot in 72 degree temps.

I can say without a doubt that 72 is much closer to hot than freezing.
