Hi all. It's my first time posting here and I need some advice from Oregon locals. I'm looking to move to Oregon but have some pretty tight limits on things that a city must have. I am not looking to move to Portland, I've lived there years ago and was not a fan. My child is a type 1 diabetic and is in therapy for behavioral issues that must continue. I am disabled and can not drive so proximity or public transportation is a must.

So, what we need is:

Pediatric endocrinologist
Child psychiatrist and or child behavioral therapist
Not Portland
Public transportation
Decent schools/neighborhood

Any advice on general areas that might fit this bill is much appreciated. I've had Rosenberg suggested by a friend who spent time there years ago, and was considering Salem, Eugene, and maybe bend. Then again I'm also looking at Colorado springs, Colorado. So who knows.

The larger the city, the more practitioners and particularly specialty practitioners. Your list of wants plus the fact that you don't drive, tells me you need to be in or very close to a large city. I don't know why Portland is off your list, but Portland and its suburbs are your best bet. If your dislike of Portland is based on weather, Salem and Eugene will be very similar.

Roseburg is a small town, population about 20,000, with a limited bus service. You may not be able to find the specialty service you are looking for.

Salem doesn't have good bus service so I would rule it out based on that.

If not Portland then Eugene would be the next best. I don't know if cycling is an option for your family but their bike paths are fantastic.

Public transportation is not all that good anywhere in Oregon. Portland has the best public transportation system. Portland also has an outstanding pediatric hospital.

Salem has a good hospital, but not so great on the public transportation.

I find Eugene difficult to get around in. I don't know about their available medical.

I don't know anything about Colorado Springs, but if they have a good bus system and the doctors that you need, maybe you should make that choice.
