Hello!
I have a sister who lives in Coo's Bay, OR and she suggested to me if I considered moving there? Currently live in Mckinney, TX and was wondering how is living in Coo's Bay for families? I am interested in the Public Charter School called The Lighthouse. Would love to hear from anybody that has a child at the charter school called The Lighthouse. Has anybody relocated from out of state and how easy/hard was it for you to adjust to living there? Weather...how is it really like there? Does it rain all the time? Give me the honest truth, thanks!
Currently work as a preschool teacher here in TX.....My sister really wants me to consider moving there but I don't know if I would like it? Considering that from what I have read on here and elsewhere....nothing really positive has been said....Is this really the case? I honestly know that I need to go there first to see how it is to actually live there. The small town, smaller school system is a plus, but how is it to raise a kid there? Family friendly town? How is it for the families that currently live in Coo's Bay? Thanks for any information/advice!

You have a sister who lives there. Surely she moved there from out of state. Why don't you ask her what it is like to live there? I'm pretty sure that no one on this forum actually lives in Coos Bay, so all they can tell you is what it is like to drive through there on their way to somewhere else.

All I'm gonna say is, I wouldn't exactly call Coos Bay "family friendly."

I'm not a big Texas fan, but for family-friendly I'd choose Mckinney over Coos Bay pretty easily.

Stay in McKinney. Coos Bay is a dump.

If you can handle the rain, you'll like the rest of the year. Magnificent coastline. However, it's not the part of Oregon I'd move to. And it's isolated. Basic shopping, but a long drive to a mall and airport.

What part of Oregon would you move to? Yes...I know its a huge difference of living in Coos Bay OR from where I am in Mckinney. Huge difference I know......Would be too much of a culture shock for sure....I think!

Actually it's not a long drive to a mall or an airport. The Pony Village Mall and the Southwest Oregon Regional Airport are right next door in North Bend. The next closest malls and airport are two hours away in Eugene. Hell, most people in LA probably spend more than two hours driving to LAX. Portland is only a four hour drive from Coos Bay.

The rain is only a problem in the winter. Even then it's mostly just light drizzly rain. The other half of the year is fine.
