A little surprised Beaverton didn't crack the top 20.

It must be tough to be surrounded by hundreds of square miles with nearly zero law enforcement.

Keep in perspective that the violent crime rate for the nation as a whole is 365.5 per 100k population (https://ucr.fbi.gov/crime-in-the-u.s...tables/table-1). Most of these cities hover right around that number with some above and some below.

Here's some perspective, all 2014 violent crime numbers per 100k population:
Portland: 473
Seattle: 603

Coos Bay: 326
Eureka, CA: 540

Salem: 312
Olympia: 406
Sacramento: 614

Gresham: 498
Vancouver: 342

Medford: 502
Grants Pass: 344
Redding, CA: 667

Beaverton has a low violent crime rate but property crime is probably pretty high. We have a lot of police visible everyday here.

The Dalles made the list with 17 violent crime incidents. Somebody needs to teach these people about statistical accuracy and sample size.

It's not a survey. Sample size has nothing to do with it.

The police departments in each city send their year end totals for each crime category to the State of Oregon, it's hard to be more accurate than that. The State then sends them to the FBI.

The State bureaucracy has been known to make mistakes during this process which results in them sending incorrect results to the FBI.
