Hi All,

I saw there were subthreads but since I don't know where Lincoln City is, I couldn't pick one. I have a friend who is moving with her wife and dog to Lincoln City, so my questions are:

How gay friendly is the city?

Is this a racist or live and let live city (my friend is african american)

My friend has lung disease, would this be a good environment health wise for her?

They're going either way (friend has primo job waiting for her), I just want to know the possibilities.

Thanks in advance!

Lincoln City is in the middle of the Oregon coast. It's a good location, probably the best shopping, a straight run to Salem, lots of nice scenery.

It's at the north end of my territory so I don't get there very often. I can't imagine that gay or black either one would cause too much trouble. It's oregon so it is Iive and let live, plus it is a tourist destination so they are used to having all sorts wandering around.

As for lungs there will be fog, rain, wind, mildew, and enormous amounts of blooming plants. There is no way for me to know whether or not that will bother someone else's lungs.

I am planning to retire on 07/31/2016 and definitely leaving CA and Oregon is the State I want to live. I am planning to settle to one of these cities and Lincoln City is my first choice the other choices are Bend, Milwaukee, and Happy Valley. My retirement income would be in the near $48k to $50k a year SS included. Which among the cities I mentioned that I can live comfortably? BTW, I will be 62 next year and my kids are all grown and accomplished. My income is just for me.

Western Oregon in general is accepting of gays. Lincoln City is somewhat of a tourist town, lots of traffic during peak season, housing and rents a bit higher, especially during peak, and not much to do except enjoy the beach. However, it is a pretty cool place overall. Just not a lot of industry, but being retired shouldn't be an issue. They have a Wal-Mart, Fred Meyer, and a few decent restaurants, but that is about it. I would definitely visit it first, and perhaps during winter.

To clarify, the WalMart and Fred Meyer stores are in Newport, 25 miles south of Lincoln City.

Lincoln City itself has a casino, an outlet mall and one of the best used book stores anywhere, along with numerous shops and restaurants.

Yes, my bad. I get the two mixed up occasionally. My entire post was meant for Newport. Lincoln City, probably has more tourist activities being closer to Oregon's population center, and is more sprawling. The area used to be three smaller towns that incorporated into the new Lincoln City in 1965.

Yes, the name Lincoln City was chosen after a contest by local school kids to come up with a new name as none of the original towns were willing to take on the name of one of the others.

What makes Lincoln City different from many of the other towns on the coast is that it has no harbor. It is basically just a long stretch of beach. So there never was a commercial fishing fleet based in Lincoln City and consequently no industries like fish processing or wood processing that are present in all the similar sized towns on the coast like Newport or Tillamook or Astoria. There is a small harbor to the south with Siletz Bay and a bit further south is the tiny harbor of Depot Bay. But Lincoln City itself has always been nothing but a beach and resort town. So the economy is pretty much entirely devoted to tourism and local retired people.

Yes, Lincoln City is just a strip city on a flat and uninteresting part of the coast. I have never seen the appeal, but people from Portland seem to love it.
